Continuing to build on its anti-tobacco legislation, the city of Pleasanton, Calif. passed an ordinance last week that requires all events held in the downtown core be 100% smoke free. The proposal got the council’s unanimous support, despite a request from the Pleasanton Downtown Association to allow event organizers to decide whether or not their event would allow smoking, according to The Independent. With that legislation passed, the council has announced its intent to ban smoking at multi-family residential complexes, going so far as to say that smoking in individual units could be banned as well as in common areas such as patios and walkways. One idea is to ban smoking completely within a 20-foot radius of any property line. Pleasanton is located about 35 miles southeast of San Francisco and is home to nearly 75,000 residents.
