Smokers looking to ring in the new year with a cigar at an Egg Harbor Township park will have to make new plans, as city leaders recently passed a ban on the use of tobacco and vaping devices at both parks and sports facilities. The ban passed unanimously at the Township Committee meeting on Dec. 16, with a report from Shore News Today stating that there was no public opposition to the ban. Violators would be subject to hefty fines, ranging from $100 to $2,000 or imprisonment for up to 90 days or community service of up to 90 days, which are based on the township’s existing code for parks. Egg Harbor Township is located in southern New Jersey, approximately 14 miles west of Atlantic City, and is home to just under 44,000 residents.
