It certainly won’t go down as the biggest score for the anti-tobacco movement, but the town of Taft, Okla., with an estimated population of 246 people, has enacted a ban on tobacco products within town property. The measure was approved at the town council’s Dec. 7 meeting and recently published in the Muskogee Phoenix. In short, the ordinance prohibits both the use and possession of both tobacco and vapor products in town parks, golf courses, recreation and athletic areas, trails, swimming pools and beaches. The ban also extends to town owned vehicles and other equipment. The change goes into effect immediately, with violators subject to a misdemeanor. Taft is located approximately 130 miles east of Oklahoma City.
