A bill that would raise the tax on other tobacco products such as cigars from 10% of the wholesale price to 78% has been introduced in the Kansas House of Representatives. Introduced by Rep. Don Hill on February 13, House Bill 2672 was referred to the House Committee on Taxation on February 14. It would also triple the tax on cigarettes from $0.79 to $2.29 per pack. If the increase passes, it would be the first increase on cigarette taxes in the state since 2002 and the first increase on other tobacco products since the 1970s.
