As the saying goes, if it at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Such is the case in Sebastian County, Ark., where the county’s Quorum Court will bring an emergency smoking ban back for a third vote next month after it failed to get the necessary number of votes at its second reading this past Tuesday. The ban was introduced on Sept. 15 and received eight votes in favor, one short of the nine needed to pass an emergency ordinance. At its second reading, it received only seven, according to the Times Record. While the county has not posted the proposal on its website, the report called it a ban on tobacco on all county property. Sebastian County is located on the western edge of the state on the border with Oklahoma. It’s the second smallest county by population in the state, with a 2010 estimate of 125,744 residents.
