Caldwell Plans Eastern Standard Maduro for 2016

Next year, there will be a maduro cigar in the Caldwell Collection. Robert Caldwell confirmed to halfwheel that his company will add an Eastern Standard Maduro line next year. “We do not have a Maduro in the Caldwell Collection,” said Caldwell in an email to halfwheel. “I am not (a) huge fan of Maduro in general. We have had a tremendous amount of requests for a premium Maduro. We began working on this blend in the spring and are almost done.” As for the blend, it will use the same hybrid Connecticut Arapiraca wrapper found on the Last Tsar, but at a lower priming. Caldwell described it as medium-full. Four sizes are planned: Corona (5 3/4 x 44), Piramide (6 x 49), Rothchilde (4 3/4 x 49) and Toro Gordo (6 x 50). Caldwell said he was trying to keep pricing in line with the regular Eastern Standard line but expected a slight premium, meaning the cigars should retail for around $10.50-15. As for packaging, it will either be 20- or 25-count boxes which feature art that is the inverse of the regular Eastern Standard line.
