Add Ortega Premium Cigars to the list of brands trying to capture the lower-priced larger ring gauge market. Ortega will begin shipping the HeavyDuty in April, a line debuting in three 60 ring gauge sizes with a trio of even larger cigars slated for the following month. The Dominican-made HeavyDuty 60 will debut in 5 x 60 ($5.70), 6 x 60 ($5.80) and 7 x 60 ($5.95) sizes, shipping in a a tray of 60 cigars between the three sizes. In May, the company will begin shipping HeavyDuty 70, an even larger cigar. The 5 x 70 will start at $6.65 per cigar with the 6 x 70 and 7 x 70 priced at $6.85 and $6.95 respectively. The cigars are made at Abe Flores’s PDR Cigars and feature an Ecuadorian habano wrapper with Dominican, Nicaragua and Pennsylvania fillers. It’s a striking contrast to the first PDR-made Ortega, the Ortega Minis.
