Altadis is growing its VegaFina Nicaragua line, but the latest addition isn’t coming to the United States–at least not yet. The VegaFina Nicaragua 8-9-8 was unveiled at last week’s Inter-tabac trade show in Dortmund, Germany, and is the first new size to the line since it was launched at last year’s show. The 8-9-8 measures 6 3/4 x 43 and comes with a price of seven euros per cigar. True to its name, it’s packed in 25-count boxes, with rows of eight cigars on the top and bottom and a row of nine in between. The VegaFina Nicaragua is a Nicaraguan puro, using a Nicaraguan Habana 2000 wrapper from Jalapa, a seco leaf from Jalapa for the wrapper, and a filler blend of ligero and seco from Jalapa with viso from Estelí. The line debuted in the U.S. in December 2014, coming in a 5 3/4 x 42 corona ($5.50), 5 x 50 robusto ($6) and 6 x 52 gran toro ($6.25). A representative from Altadis U.S.A. told halfwheel that there are no plans to bring the 8-9-8 to the U.S. market at this point.
