While electronic cigarettes were the impetus behind a proposal considered by the Hermosa Beach City Council this week, cigar smokers also dodged a bullet as the city was proposing that all cigars have a minimum price of $15 per stick if sold individually. The proposal failed during Tuesday’s meeting, but the city could come back with revamped language in an attempt to curb youth use and access to electronic cigarettes and other tobacco products. Also proposed was a cap in the number of tobacco retailers in the city as well as a new city-issued license for all tobacco retailers and a requirement that all little cigars be sold in packages of at least 20. The council is said to be reworking the language and anticipates having it back on the agenda in two months, according to Daily Breeze.com. Hermosa Beach is home to nearly 20,000 residents and is located in the southwest corner of Los Angeles County.
