The Cadillac, Mich. City Council has approved a resolution that looks to ban smoking in certain areas of city parks, though it is geared at keeping people from lighting up around each other rather than implementing a full ban. While the city has not posted the ban on its website, CadillacNews.com describes it as affecting athletic fields and areas, beaches, boat docks, picnic shelters and several other specific areas. The vote passed 3-2 during the council’s meeting on Monday. The resolution apparently does not include an enforcement provision or fines, something that some council members said will make it almost unenforceable. Cadillac is home to just over 10,000 residents and is located in the central part of the state, approximately 200 miles northwest of Detroit.
