A proposed smoking ban for parks in Pleasanton, Calif. got an initial approval from the city council this week, with a final vote scheduled for Aug. 18. The council voted 5-0 on Tuesday to grow the existing ban to cover all trails and all areas of the city’s parks, with an exemption for the municipal golf course. If it passes, the ban will go into effect Sept. 18. Smokers would be subject to a $100 fine, should the ordinance be passed with its current language. The first vote passed 5-0, according to the Contra Costa Times. Pleasanton is located about 35 miles southeast of San Francisco and is home to nearly 75,000 residents.
