One Missouri lawmaker hopes to make smoking illegal in much of the state. Rep. Courtney Allen Curtis, D-Berkeley, has proposed H.B. 1625, which would ban smoking in bars, restaurants, private clubs, restaurants, outdoor arenas and a a variety of other places. Exempt would be private residences, tobacconists, no more than 20 percent of hotel rooms and designated outdoor areas. Any business where more than 50 percent of “volume of business” is related to tobacco would be exempt, as well as bars under fifty people and stadiums with a capacity over 15,000. At this time, Rep. Curtis is the only sponsor H.B. 1625.
