Royal Agio Cigars has announced the Balmoral Añejo XO as their latest cigar and the follow-up to last year’s flagship Balmoral Añejo 18 release. This next chapter in the Balmoral portfolio uses a Brazilian sun grown wrapper, olor binder from the Dominican Republic and fillers from Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. In a press release, the flavor is described as having notes of cedar wood, spices, cacao and an underlying sweetness, with Boris Wintermans, ceo of Royal Agio Cigar, saying that the XO rivals the Añejo 18’s taste for complexity and subtlety, adding a bit of extra sweetness and creaminess. The Añejo XO is being released in three sizes, the Rothschild Massivo (5 x 55, MSRP $9.90), the Mk52 (6 1/4 x 52 torpedo, $10.95) and a Petit Robusto FT (4 3/8 x 48, $8.50). The FT is an abbreviation for the flag tail which that one vitola is adorned with. All of the cigars come in 20-count boxes and are made at Royal Agio’s factory in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.
