D’Crossier Cigars has confirmed the addition of a 7 1/2 x 38 lancero to its list of cigars that it will be showing off at at the upcoming IPCPR Convention & Trade Show. While the Selection No. 512 Lancero name may be similar to the recently released Flor de D’Crossier Selection No. 512 line, the tobaccos used for the lancero are a bit different. The lancero uses an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 wrapper but has Nicaraguan filler and an undisclosed binder as opposed to the Costa Rican sumatra binder and Costa Rica and Dominican filler on the Flor de D’Crossier Selection 512. The 512 recognizes the address in Costa Rica where the D’Crossier line was first made, and as such is an important part of the company’s history. The lancero is an homage to his father, as when he was a child in Cuba, Santana-Diaz fondly remembers watching his father study for his economics degree. In the press release announcing the cigar, he says he sat on his favorite green couch with a large text book in front of him and a lancero burning nearby, an image that has remained with Santana-Diaz for more than 35 years.
