On July 1, Arlington, Mass. will once again raise the minimum age required to purchase tobacco to 21. It’s the last of a three-year plan to increase the minimum tobacco purchasing age. In July 2013, the age minimum was raised to 19, last July that became 20 and now it will be 21. “Communities throughout the Commonwealth are making this important change, and with Arlington coming on board, we hope to further prevent teenagers and young adults from traveling across city and town lines to purchase tobacco and nicotine delivery products,” said James Feeney, the acting director of Health and Human Services, in a press release. Arlington is located in Middlesex County in the eastern part of the state, roughly five miles northwest of Boston. It has a population over 40,000.
