General Cigar Co. celebrated the 150th anniversary of Partagás with a Cameroon-wrapped cigar; it then celebrated the 160th anniversary of Partagás with a Cameroon-wrapped cigar and it will now celebrate the 170th anniversary of the brand with a Cameroon-wrapped cigar. The cigar is simply known as Partagas Aniversario. General says the wrapper is grown by the legendary Meerapfel family exclusively for the company in the Kadey region of Cameroon, which is in the eastern part of the country bordering the Central African Republic. It describes the soil as being rich enough that it does not require the use of fertilizer. In addition, it uses a Connecticut havano binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, including “Nicaraguan Guardian leaf,” another proprietary tobacco. It will be offered in three sizes: Robusto (5 x 50, $15.99), Salamone (7 1/4 x 54, $17.99) and Toro (6 x 54, $16.99). Each size will come in boxes of 10. General says it took four years to develop and the cigars will begin shipping in October. Update — Added image.
