Davidoff Expanding With Brazilian-Inspired Escurio (Update)

Two years ago, Davidoff went to Nicaragua for its boldest expansion of its flagship brand; now it’s heading to Brazil. Some retailers who have recently visited the company’s Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic have heard that the company was planning a follow-up to Davidoff Nicaragua. Internally, that project has been known as Black Two, a reference to the black band used on Davidoff Nicaragua. It will be sold as Davidoff Escurio. The new three-line release is scheduled for this summer using an Ecuadorian wrapper over a filler of Brazilian and Dominican tobacco. Escurio will debut in a Short Robusto (3 1/4 x 50), Robusto (4 1/2 x 54) and Gran Toro (5 1/2 x 58). The Robusto size will be packaged in tubos, and pricing is likely to start just under the $10 mark for the smallest size. Like the Davidoff Nicaragua, the new line is rolled in the Dominican Republic, the product of Davidoff’s blending team—spearheaded by Henke Kelner and Eladio Diaz.
