Yesterday, the New Haven Board of Alders voted in favor of banning tobacco-including the use of e-cigarettes—in a variety of public paces in the Connecticut town. Smoking is now prohibited at parks, playgrounds, school grounds, beaches and inside all city buildings. Those found in violation of the new law will be warned and then fined $100, although fines will not begin for 90 days. New Haven is the second largest city in the state, with a metro area of over 850,000. It is approximately 85 miles northeast of Manhattan.
