Amidst a busy round of exemptions to the city’s zoning ordinance voted on yesterday, the New Orleans City Council passed a revised amendment that will seemingly allow La Habana Hemingway to remain open. Councilwoman Nadine Ramsey authored the proposal, which requires that a minimum of 35% of a new cigar store or bar’s sales come from cigars in order to allow smoking, an increase from the original requirement of 10% in an attempt to thwart off a rash of bars attempting to gain an exemption. The amendment passed by a 6-1 vote, according to NOLA.com, with Councilwoman Susan Guidry as the lone opponent.
