At this year’s Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) meeting and convention, Altadis U.S.A. has presented retailers with the Por Larrañaga En Cedro. The company describes it as a medium-full cigar made up of all Nicaraguan tobaccos. It uses a Jalapa corojo wrapper, binder from Jalapa, and fillers from Condega, Estelí and Jalapa. The Por Larrañaga En Cedro is offered in a single 6 x 56 size. It’s limited to 1,000 boxes of 16 with suggested retail pricing set at $9.50. As the En Cedro part in the name implies, the cigar will be wrapped in cedar. While the cigar uses tobacco only from Nicaragua, it’s made in Honduras at the company’s La Flor de Copan factory. The TAA meets once per year. In recent years, it’s becoming increasingly popular for manufacturers to offer the approximately 80 retail members exclusive cigars; Altadis U.S.A. is one of a host of companies offering exclusive cigars to TAA members, joining Asylum/CLE Cigar Co., Kristoff, La Flor Dominicana, Nat Sherman, Quesada Cigars and Tatuaje.
