Close followers of Habanos S.A.’s Edición Regional program might point to 2011 as the peak of the program, and it was in terms of sheer quantity, as there were 25 ERs put out in 2011, the most since the program formally began in 2005. It was the last year of multiple releases for the same region and saw four different marcas have at least three different releases, including Juan López. The Juan López brand is known by those who smoke deeper into the Habanos S.A. catalog but is certainly not a brand that comes to mind for most people when they think about Cuban cigars. The marca traces its roots back to around 1870 and is currently classified as a local brand with a minor market share. There are only three regular production sizes currently made: the Petit Corona (5 1/12 x 42), the Selección No.1 (5 5/8 x 46) and the Selección No.2 (4 7/8 x 50). A pair of vitolas were discontinued in 2006, the Panatelas Superba (4 11/12 x 34) and a Corona (5 3/5 x 42).
