The move to make Rhode Island the first state in the nation where you must be 21 years of age to buy tobacco faces its first test tomorrow. House Bill 5225 will be voted on tomorrow in the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare. The bill was proposed by Rep. Teresa Tanzi, D-South Kingstown & Narragansett, earlier this year. It changes Section 11-9-13 of the General Flaws to require individuals to be 21 or older to purchase tobacco products.
