Hawaii has taken receipt of yet another island-only release, the Tatuaje Musubi. The cigar was actually originally made for the wedding of a good friend of Tatuaje owner Pete Johnson, who posted the above picture of the cigar on Instagram in October 2013. There were leftover bands, which Johnson decided to use for an exclusive release for Hawaii. The 2015 Musubi measures 5 x 50 and uses a new blend of Connecticut broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers. There were 300 boxes of 13 cigars created—wet-packed in gold foil—but Johnson told halfwheel he and his aforementioned friend kept some of the boxes. Pricing will be $9 for out-of-state customers and $11.25 for cigars bought locally, due to the Hawaiian tobacco tax. Five retailers will carry the cigar: Fujioka’s Wine Times, Honolulu Cigar Company, R. Field Wine Co., Tamura’s Fine Wines & Liquors and Tobaccos of Hawaii. The name is drawn from Spam musubi, a Hawaiian take on sushi, which consists of grilled spam on rice wrapped in dried seaweed. Johnson told halfwheel that this is not part of the planned five retailer exclusives for Tatuaje this year.
