There are now even fewer places in Breckenridge, Colo. where smokers are allowed to light up, as the city council passed an amendment that expands the reach of the smoking ban and also includes e-cigarettes and similar products in the list of prohibited products. The newly prohibited areas include town controlled parks, open spaces, sports areas, athletic fields and playgrounds, as well as the town’s Recreation Path. Smoking will still be allowed on town golf courses but is now prohibited in facilities and surrounding grounds that are not part of the playing course. It will also be illegal to smoke within ten feet of bus stops and other public transit waiting areas, as well as within ten feet of the entryway to a business. Earlier this month, the town council voted to allow smoking on and near restaurant and bar patios. The changes go into effect on Saturday, March 14. Breckenridge is located about 60 miles northeast of Denver and is home to just over 4,500 residents.
