Looking to follow in the path of its neighbors Montague and Leverett, the Franklin County town of Greenfield, Mass. could become the next to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21. The city’s board of health has announced a public hearing on the topic, scheduled for Wed. March 11. There will also be a proposal to cap the number of tobacco retailer permits issued in the city on the agenda, according to WWLP.com. Both Montague and Leverett passed purchasing age increases in January, with the change starting in Leverett on March 1 while Montague opted for a July 1 start date. Greenfield is just a few miles to the northwest of both of those towns. Greenfield has a population of just over 18,000 residents and is located about 90 miles west of Boston.
