There are many cigar brands that have their roots in Cuba, even younger cigarmakers who have their own roots—but there aren’t many of the latter that are actually from Cuba. Reinier Lorenzo of HVC Cigars is one of a few younger Cuban brand owners. His brand, HVC Cigars, is a tribute in of itself—Havana City Cigars—and his newest release goes even deeper. La Rosa 520 is actually the address of where Lorenzo lived in Havana. The cigar will begin shipping to 10 stores in May. It is made entirely of AGANORSA tobaccos from the Jalapa region, which Lorenzo said reminds him the most of the soil from San Luis and San Juan y Martínez—two of the most popular ares to grow tobacco in Cuba’s Pinar del Río. HVC La Rosa 520 is offered in a 5 1/2 x 54 rolled by a single roller in the Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. (TABSA) factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Lorenzo told halfwheel he has not finalized pricing for the release.
