The board of health in Princeton, N.J. appears to be headed towards a vote on raising the minimum age to purchase and use tobacco products and e-cigarettes to 21-years-old from the current age of 19. Councilwoman Heather Howard, liaison to the board, told NJ.com that she expects the proposal to be introduced at March’s meeting and possibly voted on in April. The board can make the increase without the council’s approval. New Jersey currently has a bill in the state senate that seeks to raise the age to 21 statewide. Sayreville, Teaneck and Englewood have already increased the age on their own to 21. Princeton has a population of just over 29,000 residents and is best known for being home to Princeton University. It is located about 37 miles southwest of Newark.
