While a formal date for a public hearing has not yet been announced, it appears that the Amherst, Mass. Board of Health will be holding a public hearing on a proposal to raise the age to purchase and use tobacco products from 18 to 21. Board chairwoman Nancy Gilbert told MassLive.com that after it fell off the priority list last year due to work on revised smoking regulations, it is now in the plans for the coming months. In 2013, the board banned the sale of cigarettes at pharmacies in the town. Amherst is home to approximately 35,000 residents and is located about 90 miles west of Boston.
