The Napa County town of Yountville has passed a parks smoking ban that will prohibit lighting up in parks as of Feb. 19. The 4-1 vote occurred at the council’s Jan. 20 meeting and bans smoking any tobacco product including cigarettes, cigars and pipes, and also bans the use of marijuana, even if it is for medicinal purposes. The ban extends into the town’s trails and around recreational buildings such as the town’s community center. Violators are subject to a fine of not more than $100 for a first offense, up to $200 for a second offense and up to $500 for subsequent offenses in the same year. An earlier version of the proposal that sought to ban chewing tobacco and other nicotine delivery devices was rejected at the end of 2014, with the version that passed allowing for the use of those products, according to the Napa Valley Register. Yountville is home to approximately 3,000 residents and is located approximately 55 miles north of San Francisco.
