There’s a new smoking ban in effect today in Beaver County, Pa., as an ordinance passed on Nov. 13 now prohibits smoking on county property and parking areas. The ban covers all interior and exterior areas of county buildings and property, including sidewalks around the county courthouse. Interestingly, parks are not subject to the ban, with the exception of the Old Economy Park pool and lodge and Bradys Run Park’s Four Season shelter and recreation facility, both of which are enforcing the bans, according to TimesOnline.com. The ban includes both smoked and non-smoked tobacco products. In the transition period to get people acclimated to the new law, warnings will be given to violators, but fines could be in store for repeat violators or those who ignore the law. First time fines start at $25 and escalate to $50 and $100 for second and third offenses. Beaver County is located on the western side of the state, with the county seat of Beaver located about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. It had a 2013 population estimate of 170,115 people.
