The Fargo Park Board has decreased the number of places smokers will be allowed to light up after modifying its existing smoking ban at its November meeting, pushing smokers to just a dozen areas in the park system. All but one of the city’s golf courses will still allow smoking, with the other areas described as open areas and trails where there is a lower opportunity for non-smokers to come into contact with secondhand smoke. The city has banned smoking at all indoor facilities as well as outdoor skating rinks, skate parks, tennis courts and at youth-designated special events on city property, according to KFGO.com. Clay Whittlesey, a spokesman for the Fargo Parks Board, said commissioners didn’t want an outright ban on smoking since it is still tobacco consumption is still a legal activity. Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota with a population of nearly 114,000 people.
