In March, a proposal to raise the minimum purchasing age for tobacco from 19 to 21 in Nassau County, N.Y. was tabled. Now, the same legislator that introduced the proposal in March plans on taking another stab at it. Judy Jacobs, D-Woodbury, announced yesterday that she will once again seek legislation that makes it illegal for 19 and 20-year-olds to buy tobacco. If passed, you would need to be 21 years of age to buy tobacco in Long Island, as Suffolk County has passed legislation that will raise the minimum age. New age restrictions are already in effect in New York City. Nassau County is home to over 1.3 million residents.
