Smoking in Lubbock might just get a lot harder. At Thursday’s City Council Meeting, there’s a scheduled first reading of an ordinance that would modify the city’s Code of Ordinances to limit smoking in public places. The measure, which already has support from two members of the City Council, is expected to include all tobacco products—including e-cigarettes—and create a smoke-free buffer zone around entrances to buildings that extends 20-feet. It’s unclear whether the proposal that will be read will include banning smoking at bars and restaurants, Fox34 has reported that there are at least two different proposed versions of the law. Earlier this year, a similar proposal received opposition from Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson. Lubbock is located in the northwestern part of the state, home to more than 236,000 residents as well as Texas Tech University. It is part of Lubbock County and is located just over 300 miles west of Dallas.
