Last month, smoking on public property in Cumberland County, N.C. became illegal thanks to a law passed last September. Now, the County’s Comissioners are discussing expanding the smoking ban as far as sidewalks. Formally, Cumberland County officials are looking at banning smoking on sidewalks, bus stops, trails and hotels. Predictably, opposition has already been made regarding how invasive the expanded law would be on private property, but the debate will continue over the expansion. Cumberland County is located in south-central North Carolina with a population of 320,000 and includes both Fayetteville and Fort Bragg.
