A vote on a sweeping smoking ban in Mecklenburg County, N.C. is being pushed back until at least early October, as county commissioners have removed it from the agenda for this Tuesday’s meeting. The Charlotte Observer reports that after hearing complaints from several officials of local municipalities, the commission decided to delay the vote while they gather more input. Charlotte is the largest city in the county, with six smaller towns also within county lines. Collectively, the county has a population of 990,977 people as of 2013 US Census estimates. The proposed ban, which came to light in mid-June, would ban smoking at all county property, including inside buildings, vehicles and at parks and golf courses.
