Smoking in state parks in Oregon could be banned by next year if a new law, expected to be voted on by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department in February, takes effect. The ban would affect common areas of campgrounds, picnic areas and trails with fines for violators. According to 101 KXL, the dates for the public hearings are: Jan. 7 – Grants Pass – 200 NW C Street – Josephine Community Library – Grants Pass Jan. 9 – Champoeg State Heritage Area in Visitor’s Center – 8239 Champoeg Road NE – St Paul Jan. 14 – Bend Park & Recreation Office in Riverbend Room – 799 SW Columbia Street – Bend Jan. 16 – Newport Recreation Center – 225 Avery Street SE – Newport All meetings are scheduled for 7:00 pm with those wanting to comment needing to register by 7:30.
