Frisco, Texas Makes Tobacco Possession in Parks Illegal

Possessing tobacco products in the Dallas suburb of Frisco’s parks will now be prohibited. A 3-2 vote last week approved the measure—the stricter of two options proposed. One version would have simply banned smoking in parks, but after the Parks and Recreation Board indicated it was indifferent between banning smoking or banning smoking and possessing smoking products—the Council opted for the latter. Because of how existing laws define tobacco products, chewing tobacco will still be allowed in parks for now, although there’s already a push to add it to the new law at next month’s Council meeting. Frisco is located 25 miles north of Dallas in Collin and Denton Counties. It has a population around 140,000.
