At this year’s IPCPR convention and trade show, S.T. Dupont showed off accessories made with a variety of unique materials, including a meteorite. Yet, the technical accomplishment from the French company was in a different part of the booth—ceramium. It’s a new type of lightweight material based on aluminum alloy with a ceramic treatment. It’s not only 40 percent lighter than typical metals used for lighters and pens, but it’s also fireproof and up to six times more resistant to scratches according to the company. The first line to use ceramium is Armors of Tomorrow, which uses a matte finish across a variety of products, it’s expected to beginning in November. Before that happens, the company has announced that it will be launching a second line with the material. In December, three different products will be offered as part of Ceramium A.C.T. (advanced ceramium technology)—the S.T. Dupont’s Ligne 2.0 lighter ($1,180), Ligne D.0 rollerball pen ($510) and Ligne D.0 ballpoint pen ($460). Each will be offered in black, gray, red and blue ceramium with palladium accents. The pricing is substantially more economical than Armors of Tomorrow, where a Ligne 2 lighter retails for $1,740.
